It would seem appropriate that the first collaborative effort between trombonist Willie Colón and composer Ruben Blades in nearly ten years reflect the turmoil and fallout of their separation from Fania Records by its album title, translated as “After the Storm.” However, creative tensions remained throughout the album’s production as it was widely reported that the feuding musicians never worked together in the same studio. Still, Tras la Tormenta became both a commercial and critical success in 1995, earning Platinum-certified sales and Grammy nominations.
