In previous roles, Alex contributed to the success of Musicnotes.com as a digital sheet music engraver, and also served as music librarian, clinician, and guest lecturer.

In 2010, he created trombone.alex as a self-guided study of New Orleans music.  It has since become an entirely fan-supported project through Patreon crowdfunding and features 160+ FREE trombone transcriptions.
