"Carnival Time" - Rebirth Brass Band

SONG: "Carnival Time" (PDF)
ALBUM: The Main Event: Live at the Maple Leaf
YEAR: 2004
LABEL: Mardi Gras Records

Originally written by New Orleans pianist Al Johnson, “Carnival Time” was recorded in 1960 by producer Joe Ruffino, who claimed co-writer credit of the song. After Ruffino’s passing only a few years later, it still took another three decades for the publishing royalties to divert exclusively back to Johnson, who had relentlessly performed the song enough for it to become a Mardi Gras anthem. This studio version by Rebirth Brass Band was included as bonus material for the 2004 reissue of The Main Event, originally released in 1999 by Louisiana Red Hot Records.
