Fred Wesley - Revolution of the Mind

The history of the James Brown tune, "Make It Funky" goes back to the year 1971, when a twelve-minute studio version was recorded to be released as a single. Due the time constraints of 45 RPM records, only the first half of the recording was used, split across side A and B, and labeled as "Pts. 1 & 2." The unreleased portion of the long jam was eventually released as its own single in 1972, using the same method and appropriately labeled as "Pts. 3 & 4,” and was also included on the 1972 album, Get On the Good Foot, as “My Part / Make It Funky, Parts 3 & 4.”

As of this writing, a discrepancy remains around the editing of the original recording as the individual parts of the performance do not appear to match across the released versions. The complete recording was eventually released on a 1996 compilation, however a side-by-side comparison has yet to be done for this project. Revision coming soon…
